Burninating the Countryside

I am sure many of you know that Santa Barbara and surrounding areas are battling a very intense fire. The past few days have been very scary with the fire completely non contained and thousands of residents evacuating. But there is good news now!! According to The Associated Press, most evacuated residents are now allowed to return home. More than 30,000 people were under mandatory evacuation and another 23,000 were on evacuation standby, now over half of these people are safely in their homes once more. (But are told to stay alert). Sadly, 31 homes were completely destroyed and 47 others were damaged. Hopefully the count will not continue to rise. As of last night the fire is 40% contained thanks to a moist marine layer pushed out by the Pacific Ocean. Thank you God!

Here are some pictures I took of the fire damage out there from the last fire that hit Montecito. It was really bizarre to me that one house could be completely burned down and their neighbors was left 100% untouched. I can't imagine driving home to this. It's times like these that you really are reminded that it's all just stuff.

Thank a Mom

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers out there! What would we do with out you? Thanks for all your selfless love that you give so endlessly. Wish I could go visit my mamasita today but finals are consuming! Just a couple weeks though and I will be able to celebrate her birthday, mothers day, and my birthday all at once. Can't come soon enough. But for now, here's to you Mum.

Welcoming MAY

Really May already?! You know what that means... it's my birthday month!! YES. Along with finals, friends moving, and summer school. But so many great things happen in May. My birthday, my Mum's birthday, Becca Shea's birthday, mothers day, Flight of the Conchords in Phoenix, Animal Collective concert, FUN concert, May flowers, bahhh and so many more! Only two weeks left in the semester and I am having a slight nervous breakdown with sooo many research papers due and finals. This picture below represents May to me. This is my friends daughter at her second birthday party and she wants to be Tinkerbell. What a smart beautiful little lady.

To kick off my month, we had a "Real World" party last night. We welcomed all of our graduating friends into the real world by dressing up as the careers we are going into and we had a confession room where we would film ourselves saying whatever we wanted to say about everyone else and answering a list of questions. It was really entertaining really. The confession room turned into a competition to see who could fit the most in at one time.
I dressed up as a "beach bum with a cause". My future career doesnt really have a set uniform so I decided to be my dream career. I would like to be a hobo fer realzz. No shoes, no showers, no problem. Oh and I would live under the peer in Ocean Beach. And I of course would still care about advocating for children sooo I would spend my time raising money for them on the streets. If this was an effective way to help I would honestly consider it. Here is some idea of my costume for the night. I also had burning insense in my hair for the majority of the night that you cant really see. I only sizzled a couple hairs.. no worries. My shirt said "hobo's for ninos" and my cardboard sign said, "help support a bum with a cause". I'll have more pictures from last night once I get the pictures from other people. I also dont really know what was going on in this picture.

Here are a couple of the other outfits. A human rights lawyer, and a doctor. My friends are smart. (and of course, it is not a real party without an ice sculpture).
